My Heart Goes Out
Time and again
My heart goes out
on the helper high
Limps home scraped out,
empty and
bewildered
My heart goes out
for hard love labor
Flagging, Fatigued
goes under
swamped in chronic crisis
My heart goes out
To save a soul
With narrowed eyes
yet wearing badges
goes lost and wandering
Bruised over well worn talkways
Compassion wearily trolls the front porch
puts ear to rail
anticipating the messenger
Braces for the swarm of expectations
and stinging assumptions
Now
My heart goes out
in widows weeds
Arms fixed across the chest
to peer across the threshold
glare into the void
From the safety of the house
This Morning
This morning
Wisps
The coffee smells diving in
Catching hold
Hooking my sleepy senses
Reeling me out of the deep
And onto my minds feet
This morning
Fire and Honey
The sun seeping in
Over my objections
Under my curtain
Igniting the trees
Drawing a smile across my walls
This morning
Cries
The young hawk on the hunt
Announces her sovereignty
Begging my attention
Turning my head
Toward earth in search of breakfast
This morning
